Turkey Day Leftover Recipes- Turkey Tacos

Thanksgiving celebration is a fun holiday where you meet and chat with your family members and friends and there’s an abundance of food on the Thanksgiving table that makes you all so happy and you really enjoy the moment. But after the give thanks and cheers, you wake up to encounter many containers full of leftover foods or more precisely leftover turkey.

I will be posting 5 days of different leftovers used in a different to use up those foods from Thanksgiving Day.

Leftover Turkey Recipe- Day 1 – Turkey Tacos

Thanksgiving Turkey Tacos- an easy way to eat up all those leftovers! Filled with classic tasty leftovers of turkey and definitely a new spin on leftovers!

HOW TO MAKE TURKEY TACOS?

  • Warm up your taco wraps or taco shells
  • Make your homemade taco seasoning or buy a package store bought one if you like
  • Pan fry or microwave your leftover turkey, add seasoning, 1/2 cup of water and 1 jar of salsa
  • Build yourself an amazing taco

HOW LONG IS LEFTOVER TURKEY GOOD FOR?

If you store your turkey in the fridge in an airtight container, it will be good for 3-4 days.

If you want to store it for longer, you can keep it in the freezer for 3 months. If you keep it in too long, though, it will begin to lose flavor.

Ingredients

  • Taco Seasoning
  • 1 tablespoon corn starch or xanthan gum

  • 2 teaspoons paprika

  • 1/2 teaspoon chili

  • 1 tablespoon parsley

  • 1/2 teaspoon oregano

  • 1 teaspoon cumin

  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

  • 1 teaspoon onion powder

  • Turkey Carnita
  • 1/2 cup to 1 cup salsa

  • 3 cups leftover turkey, white or dark meat

  • 3 tablespoons olive oil

  • For the Tacos
  • 6 flour tortillas or hard shells

  • 3 tablespoons finely diced red onion

  • 3 tablespoons fresh cilantro, chopped

  • 4 tablespoons mexican cheese

  • 3 tablespoons shredded carrots and green cabbage

  • 1 small can corn

  • 1 medium avocado, sliced thin

Directions

  • In a small bowl, combine all the ingredients to make the taco seasoning
  • Slice or shred the leftover turkey meat and place it in a medium sized mixing bowl. Add 1/2 cup of water and seasoning mixture. Mix until combined.
  • Heat 3 tbsp of olive oil in a large pan over medium-low heat. Add the seasoned turkey and salsa. Simmer, covered, for 15 to 20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Turkey meat should be soft and tender. Shred into smaller pieces if needed before pan frying.
