I had leftover chicken and my husband was in the mood for chicken fajita’s but I didn’t have the prepacked ones that I usually have for a quick easy meal. I had all the ingredients to make own all- purpose fajita seasoning with just a few basic spices. You can use this homemade seasoning on chicken, steak, shrimp, veggies, in soup and more.

Don’t worry about anything, making your fajita seasoning mix in your own kitchen is so simple and you only a few basic spices. There is benefits of make your own seasonings or rubs like its cheaper, you know exactly what’s in it and you can make big batches which means you will always have then on hand.
You will need
- Chili Powder
- Ground Cumin
- Garlic Powder
- Onion Powder
- Cayenne Pepper
In a bowl, collect your spices and mix them well. This recipe makes 12 tablespoons or 3/4 cup. To thinkin the seasoning when you make your fajitas add 1 tablespoon of xanthium gum, arrowroot or cornstarch to the seasoning. Mix it well. Add the mixture to the meat, seafood or veggies with 1/4 cup of water.
This recipe can be doubled, tripled or quadrupled to your desire and the spices can be changed too to your taste if you want a little spicier.

2 tablespoons chili powder
2 tablespoons ground cumin
1 tablespoon Himalaya salt
2 tablespoons paprika
2 tablespoons dried oregano
2 tablespoons dried garlic powder
2 tablespoons dried minced onion powder (or dried garlic powder)
2 teaspoons cayenne pepper
- In a bowl, combine all the spices together and mix well
- Store in airtight container or a mason jar until ready to use
- When ready to use add 1 tablespoon xanthan gum, arrowroot or cornstarch to thinkin the mixture
- Store the seasoning in a dry and cool are for you 6 months
- To make the fajita with the seasoning, you only need 3-4 tablespoons and 1/4 cup of water
