Appetizers-Keto Onion Hamburger Bites

I’ll be the first to admit it, I’m kind of obsessed with the two sauces I made. What can I say? its magical and a recipe I will be making a lot more than for the holidays.

These tasty mini bunless burgers bits are perfect for parties because they can feed your guests and no one will even miss that bread. Once you add the sauce to those little burger bites you’re going to be going back for seconds!

INGREDIENTS YOU’LL NEED

For the burgers:

  • Ground beef – We use 80/20 to keep the burgers moist. You can also make it ground turkey, chicken, pork or plant base meat for the recipe.
  • Onion – The onions adds a lot of flavor to the mini hamburgers
  • American Cheese – I used a mixed shredded cheese blend but you can use any kind of cheese especially if you need make this recipe dairy free
  • Dill Pickle – Make sure it is dill and not sweet!
  • Optional- You can add lettuce or tomatoes to add color and taste to the mini burger bites

For the sauce #1:

  • Mayonnaise – This is the base of the sauce. We love Hellman’s or Duke’s
  • Dill pickle relish – If you can’t find dill relish you can just finely chop some of your dill pickles.
  • Yellow mustard – This adds that delicious zing to your special sauce.
  • White wine vinegar – A little vinegar adds just a bit more of a kick.
  • Spices – Paprika, onion powder, and garlic powder combined to bring all of the flavors together.

For the sauce #2:

  • Avocado- It gives that reach taste and adding the sauce to the mini bites brings it to the next level
  • Greek Yogurt– I used this give a rich taste to it and this can be substituted with dairy free yogurt.
  • Rice Vinegar– Balances the sweetness in it and such a great taste.
  • Lime Juice– A little vinegar adds just a bit more of a kick
  • Spices- Dill, chives, parsley, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper combined to bring all the flavors together

Instructions for the sauce/dressing

  • Combine all ingredients in a blender or food processor and pulse until smooth.
  • Taste, add salt and pepper to taste and water to thin to desired consistency. (Add more water for a salad dressing, less if using as a dip)
  • Chill until ready to serve. Store covered tightly and chilled up to 1 week.

WHAT CAN I SUBSTITUTE FOR CILANTRO?

If you are out of cilantro, don’t worry, you can substitute parsley, tarragon, or dill. Personally, I prefer the dill as a substitute, but it’s up to you what you use in this sauce/dressing. I’ve also seen cilantro paste (in the produce section of the grocery store) which would work too. You can keep the tube in your fridge and use it as needed if you don’t want to worry about keeping cilantro fresh until you’re ready to use it.
